Salute Your Shorts! See You At Dirtybird Campout

It’s the morning of Sunday, October 8th. One more day of Dirtybird Campout. The trumpeter plays the “wake-up” song as the sun eagerly emerges over our woodland home in the San Antonio campgrounds. The flagpole rises, one tug at a time revealing a tie-dye pair boxer shorts with a raccoon tail attached to the crouch. Things got weird last night. I’m wondering how that squirrel got into my tent and why it’s covered in glitter. I hear some booty bumpin’ house beats off in the distance. My face hurts from smiling so much and my tummy tickles to do it again!

This is not your douchy coworker’s EDM festival. Since 2005, the Dirtybird label has been providing an alternative for house and techno fans, combining great dance music with both a sense of humor and humility. Now in it’s third year, Campout takes the label’s musical sensibly and all-around radness, bringing it to an adult, summer-camp-themed playground. This year’s event takes place at it’s new and improved home in Bradley CA’s San Antonio campground October 6th – October 9th, plus a bonus “early arrival” day on Thursday the 5th for those particularly eager fans. In addition to even more room for activities, this new home has the added bonus of the lake actually being swimmable! AKA who needs showers? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

While soaking up the wilderness, festival participants will enjoy sets from our favorite Dirtybird Camp Counselors including label patriarch Claude Vonstroke, plus J. Phlip, Justin & Christian Martin, Walker & Royce, Kill Frenzy b2b Will Clarke and more. We heavily anticipating fun-filled performances from Desert Heart’s brothers Mikey Lion and Porkchop, in addition to Mija’s “Fck a Genre” epithet alongside Netsky. Hip-hop fans, be sure to catch acclaimed producer, Madlib. Check here for the full lineup.

In addition to the awesome tunes and performances, the event touts a bountiful lineup of activities. Just like sleep-away camp, attendees can expect activities ranging from tug-of-war and dodgeball to tie-dye and woodcarving. Don’t forget to pick up your colored team bandanas. There’s nothing like a little friendly competition to bring together friendships new and old. Check out the comprehensive list of games and activities here.

A big part of what distinguishes Campout from other festivals is the lack of separation between audience member and performer. Festival attendees will have the opportunity to get involved in the action by joining the many tournaments, competitions, karaoke, talent show, even bobbing for apples. Here you will also likely run into one of the regular Dirtybirds playing alongside you in the water ballon toss or at one of the renegade campsite after parties (shhhh… those are off the record, of course). Here underneath the trees is truly a bipartisan land where all participants and performers alike are united by their commitment to quality dance music and lighthearted antics.

For a more revealing sense of the festivities, check out our in-depth review and photos from last year’s Campout.

Get your party pants ready! We are eagerly looking forward to partying at Campout with you. We hope to see you there to play a round of cornhole and wild out to some dope tunes together!
