Hey EDM fans! It’s your favorite rookie EDM journalist, Alex Kil, here. While I’ve been away as of late, I will be in Japan for all of next year and will hopefully have the opportunity to provide for our readers a glimpse of Tokyo’s thriving EDM scene! The first of the events in Japan that I am hoping to cover for you all is Ultra Japan 2017! If you somehow don’t know, Ultra is one of the largest EDM event companies and record labels and now has regional Ultra Music Festivals all over the world.
Like previous years, Ultra Japan will occur September 16, 17, and 18 on the beautiful beachfront of Tokyo Odaiba Ultra Park. Located southeast of the famous Shibuya and Shinjuku areas of Tokyo and facing the scenic Tokyo Bay, attendees from all over Japan and the world will have the opportunity to close out the summer heat with bangin’ beats and dirty drops alongside some of the most famous EDM DJs in the world. Previous Ultra Japan lineups have included the likes of Afrojack, Alesso, Armin Van Buuren, Deadmau5, Hardwell, Knife Party, Kygo, Tiesto, Jauz, and Galantis, just to name a few. Ultra Japan’s lineups are always on par with that of Ultra Music Festival in Miami, so you can safely expect a lit experience. However, be warned that attendees must be at least 20 years old to enter. Luckily, Japan’s drinking age is also 20 for those that are tad bit young in the states.
Last year, I had the amazing opportunity to cover Ultra Music Festival 2016 in Miami which was one of the most amazing EDM festival experiences I’ve ever had. However, I have yet to have the opportunity to check out any music festivals overseas. I am praying that Ultra Japan 2017 will be the first. Last summer while in Tokyo, I had the opportunity to check out a few major Tokyo EDM clubs such as Ageha and Sound Museum Vision. Both provided me my first glimpses into Tokyo’s thriving and still-growing EDM scene. I can’t wait to check out Ultra Japan and see how it compares to other majors. I can’t wait to see who Ultra announces for this year’s lineup, but I’ll be sure to keep our readers updated!
If you’re considering making the pilgrimage to Tokyo, you better secure your tickets asap as only the final tier of tickets are available as of the publishing of this article. Ultra Japan is known to sell out completely, so move quick!!
And if you’re on the fence about going, check out the Ultra Japan 2016 official aftermovie below and be convinced!
