Earlier this month, MaRLo was voted Australia’s #1 DJ on the inthemix50 poll. We got a chance to sit down with him before his recent Dreamstate set to ask a few questions about him, his music, and future career plans. Here is what we found out!
While early electronic pioneers like Prodigy and Aphex Twin got him into dance music, MaRLo looked up to artists like Armin Van Buuren and Ferry Corsten as he began to fall in love with Trance. He slates them for having paved the way for his current, unique brand of sounds. Outside of the electronic genre, he enjoys listening to Coldplay and Lana Del Rey. However, because of his constant touring and music production schedule, MaRLo says he has “come to appreciate the golden sound of silence more,” stating that sometimes he needs to “give his ears a break”.
When asked about lesser known artists he’s been listening to recently, he didn’t want to list just a few, saying it would be unfair to all of the very talented artists that wouldn’t get listed. However, if any fans are interested in finding out, they could look them up on his set lists.
MaRLo has recently been hard at work bringing fans his Altitude tour, which had several sold out shows throughout Australia. During these shows, he played an impressive 4-hour solid set that included live performances from several of the songstresses featured on his tracks. We’re hoping Insomniac takes notice and brings the tour stateside… **hint, hint.
His set at Dreamstate was phenomenal, containing lots of energy throughout. The recent, favorite track, “Join Us Now” drove the crowd wild with its massive sounds.
It has been a very eventful and productive year for both MaRLo and his wife, Jano — they are expecting a young addition to their family very soon! Despite this auspicious news, the power couple still continues to press forward, bringing their eager fans only the best in music and event production. They had partnered on the huge hit tracks, “Haunted” and “The Island”. Watch out for more from them, because this duo does not disappoint.
We at EDMLA would like to offer the warmest wishes for a healthy and safe delivery of their child. We can’t wait to see them again in California very soon! Thank you for interviewing with EDMLA!
