Review: Night Bass Tour LA Oct. 10

Truly defining “bass music,” my ears are still ringing from Friday night, when AC Slater’s NIGHT BASS tour came back to Los Angeles. Tastemakers and fans packed into Lot 613 as the heavy-hitting sounds spilled out into warehouse district. The party dished out main-stream, club performances with all the intimate, underground vibes of a warehouse show.

The NIGHT BASS tour just finished up it’s 12 city North American rotation in 12 consecutive days. The roster toted some dirty beats from Slater himself and the best of UK’s bass talent including the notoriously slamming, Jack Beats, jackin’ house leading lady, Hannah Wants and Kry Wolf — who was featured as a late-night special guest at this sold out event.

NIGHT BASS regulars BONES & Petey Clicks got the night started. Slater also enrolled the help of Gary Richards, AKA Destructo and the rest of the HARD Presents team to put together an exciting roster for an additional party room. The 2nd room included performances from Jen Lasher, Light Year, Amtrac, Treasure Fingers and the always energetic, Aussie vixen Anna Lunoe.

The night peaked with an epic set from Jack Beats. The duo has been delivering bangers since their 2007 debut and Friday’s show was no exception. The crowd got down to their exciting, multi-stranded sound and wobbly bass lines. Niall Dailly, formally DJ Plus One of Scratch Perverts and Beni G, a founding member of The Mixologists, were award-winning turntablist masters before partnering to form Jack Beats. Attending raves in the early 90’s, they picked up their multitude of influences including drum & bass, grime and dub step. All of these can be heard in their production and combined with their affinity for hip hop and bass music, the unique hybrid sound they have become synonymous with was formed. The show was relentlessly high-energy and included hard-hitting, new and old favorites.

The anticipated event was a success. It even drew cameos from EDM big names Boys Noize, Kaskade and A-Trak, who dished out hugs for the homies. I can happily place the dancin’ slippers on the shelf until next time and look out for upcoming NIGHT BASS events. They are not to be missed.
